Introductions
Hello and a happy new year! First things first, (this being a new year, and a new blog, best to start from the beginning) – we are aurora planning and, having established ourselves as town and country planning advisors in 2017, with years of experience behind us, we would like to share some of our knowledge more widely through a monthly blog, of which this is the first.
Who are aurora planning?
For readers who don’t know us, aurora planning brings together Margaret Bochel, a Chartered Town Planner with over 28 years’ experience in planning, transportation and environmental functions in local government and the private sector, including 10 years as Head of Planning and Sustainable Development at Aberdeen City Council, and Pippa Robertson, who worked for a number of years as a solicitor in environmental and planning law before moving into planning consultancy, and who is also an associate member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
Why will our blogs be of interest to you?
Our blogs will cover a wide range of subjects with something for everyone interested in the planning system. Some will relate to current issues and be of particular interest to professionals who engage with the planning system on a daily basis (for instance, the new Planning Bill – look out for that one shortly). Others will help to demystify the system for those less familiar with it (for instance, looking at how someone with little previous experience of the planning process can get their voice heard by decision makers).
And there’s more….
Between blogs we will issue regular bulletins, ‘aurora spotlights’, in which we will shine a light on key planning matters happening each month, including, for example, new legislation, Scottish Government consultations, any significant planning applications or appeal decisions, and upcoming events.
In both our blogs and aurora spotlights, we will be drawing on our combined planning and legal backgrounds to give unique insights into the planning system, and making it more accessible than it often seems; for individuals, communities, and businesses.
